West Bengal Board Class 12 Statistics Syllabus: The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) is the education board responsible for the development and administration of education in the state. Students must be aware that the board has released the latest syllabus for the students of class 12 on its official website. Here we have covered the WBCHSE Class 12 Statistics syllabus.
As per the Board’s website, the council takes care of- periodic assessment of the educational needs at Higher Secondary level at the state and laying down the general policy for the development of the Higher Secondary Education; upgradation of institutions to Plus 2 level; renewal of recognition of recognized HS Institutions; granting permission to teach subjects at the recognized HS Institutions; granting permission for co-education, excess admission, medium change etc; providing the curriculum, syllabus, the courses of studies to be followed and the books to be studied in the HS curriculum; undertake the preparation, publication and sale of textbooks and other books; conduct the Higher Secondary Examination and publication of result and awarding of certificates and scholarship thereof.
Statistics is used in various fields such as Engineering, Commerce, Industry, Agriculture, Bio-Technology, Education, Economics, Physical Science and Social Science. Students should go through the syllabus carefully and plan their examination preparation accordingly.

West Bengal Board Class 12 Statistics Syllabus 2024-25
Semester III UNIT 1 Mathematics: Concept of series and sequence, Concept of convergence and divergence and related sums. Infinite series, e-series and log series and related sums. Concept of Maximum and Minimum, Concept of Partial derivative, Concept of Infinite Integral(Gamma integral and Beta integral and their relation with factorial). |
UNIT 2 Probability Distributions: Random Variables and its Probability distribution, Cumulative distribution function, Probability Mass Function, Probability density function , Expectation, Variance. |
UNIT 3 Some Discrete Distribution: Uniform distribution, Binomial distribution, Poisson distribution, Geometric distribution and their properties with related problem Sums. Fitting of above distributions. |
UNIT 4 Least square method and curve fitting (linear and exponential). |
UNIT 5 Time series Analysis: Introduction, Different components of time series, Different models of time series, Trend determination by method of simple moving averages and by fitting Mathematical curves (straight line and exponential curve)using least square principle. |
Semester IV UNIT 1 Descriptive Statistics: Bivariate Data, Scatter diagram, Two - way frequency distribution, Marginal and conditional distribution. Simple correlation and its properties. Simple regression Analysis and its related results Rank data and rank correlation.(Spearman’s Rank Correlation coefficient –case of no tie). |
UNIT 2 Some Continuous Distribution Rectangular distribution and Normal distribution. their properties with related problem Sums. Fitting of above distributions. |
UNIT 3 Sampling theory and Sampling distribution: Population and Sample, Parameter and Statistic, Complete Enumeration and sample surveys, Basic principles of sample survey, Advantages of Sample survey over complete enumeration. Concept of probability sampling, Practical methods of drawing a random sample using a random Number Table, SRSWR and SRSWOR, Concept of Sampling distribution of sample mean and its standard error. |
UNIT 4 p.d.f and shape of χ2 , t and F with expectation and variance (without derivation). |
UNIT 5 Estimation: Idea of inference, Point estimation, Interval estimation, Estimator and estimate. Four basic criteria of Estimator, Concept of bias. Idea of unbiasedness and minimum variance unbiasedness. Point estimation of Binomial proportion, Poisson mean ,normal mean and variance (using method of moments). |
UNIT 6 Testing of Hypothesis: Statistical test of Hypothesis-Null and Alternative hypothesis, Simple and Composite Hypothesis, Type I and Type II error, Critical region, level of significance, Power of a test, One sided and Two sided tests. Critical Value. Tests of significance related to a single Binomial Proportion and Poisson Mean(using Large sample approximation), Mean and Variance of a single univariate Normal distribution. |
UNIT 7 Statistical Quality Control: Introduction, Idea of Quality and Quality Control, Advantages of Statistical Quality Control, Process and Lot control, Control chart technique. Construction of control charts by variables (𝑋ത 𝑅) and attributes(p, np). |
