When it comes to the SSC CGL and Bank PO, all job profiles in these categories are challenging and provide good opportunities for growth. Generally, many aspirants think that SSC CGL is better than Bank PO but this is not always true. When it comes to girls, it depends on individual personality and challenge taking ability.
Every year the Staff Selection Commission conducts CGL exam for recruitment to various Central Government Departments and ministries like the Central Secretariat Service, CBI, Ministry of Railways/ External Affairs /Defense, CAG, Statistical Investigator, AO, Central Vigilance Commission, Intelligence Bureau, Excise Inspector, etc. IBPS and SBI recruit thousands of graduates into the banking system as PO.
Security of Job: Both these jobs are safe and secure because the person will work in various departments of the Central Government.
Growth in the Hierarchy and promotions: A post under SSC CGL won’t give an opportunity to reach the top position i.e. Secretary to the Govt of India. These Secretary level posts will be occupied by IAS, IPS, IRS and equivalent cadre. Bank PO is the highest level of entry in the banking system. Bank PO gives an opportunity to reach the top level posts like the CEO and CMD. Promotion in banks is faster as banks ensure a steady procedure for promoting a probationary officer at regular time period. On the other hand, in SSC CGL, it depends upon your concerned department. For a girl who has ability to lead any particular department, can lead if she opted for bank PO whereas it is not so in SSC CGL offered posts.
Job/Office Timings: Most of the SSC CGL office timings are 10 am to 5 pm. Though the Bank PO office timings are 10 am to 5 pm, the work load will not allow PO to go home on time. Bank PO will have more work pressure when compared to SSC. This is because of the Indian Social System. When a girl has to opt between SSC CGL and Bank PO she must consider office timing and workload.
Pay scale and salaries: After 7th pay commission SSC CGL officer salary will be little higher compared to Bank PO. Otherwise,, there is not much difference in salary. When you think of the entire career, PO offers more earnings than any SSC recruit if you want to earn more money, then work for 10-15 years in a PSB and switch to any of private banks. This type of jump is not possible in case of SSC CGL because SSC CGL is a job based in completely government setup..
Working Pressure: In SSC-CGL work pressure is less and the job is more relaxed in comparison to bank PO. For Bank PO officers work pressure is high because They deals with the public directly and the work of PO includes general banking, administrative task, or any other task bestowed by the senior management from time to time.
Transfers and postings: In SSC CGL transfer mostly takes place every 4-5 years except CSS posts. The person selected through SSC CGL will mostly stay in Metropolitan cities, State capitals and District Headquarters. While in the case of Bank PO, transfers, take place every 2-5 years. In both Organizations, a transfer is based on seniority/promotion only. The problem with bank PO is that they are posted in a rural area where proper facilities will not be available. Girls who can adjust themselves in rural environment can go to Bank PO jobs.
Exposure: Exposure means seeing various facets and shades of life. Bank PO provides much wider and richer exposure than SSC posts.
From the above article, we can conclude that the salaries, social status, job satisfaction, job challenges and promotions all vary between SSC CGL and Bank PO. Girls can opt for either of depending upon their calibre, personality and family support.
