23rd Mela Ghadri Babeyan Da was held at Desh Bhagat Yaadgar Hall in Jalandhar, Punjab from 30 October to 1 November 2014. The three-day fair is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the ship Komagata Maru’s ill-fated arrival in Vancouver.
During the fair, the ashes of the martyrs of 1857 – who were buried in the Ajnala well – were displayed.
The mela was participated by about 12 families of the martyrs of the historical Komagata Maru incident along with some delegates from Canada, England and America.
Apart from this, flag hoisting ceremony took place on 1 November 2014 and Jhande Da Geet play penned by Amolak Singh was performed by over 100 participants. Several other plays, documentaries and other events were also organised on the occasion.
