A secret ballot of FIFA’s 22 executive members in Zurich on 2 December 2010 selected Russia and Qatar as hosts of FIFA World Cup of 2018 and 2022 respectively. Russia emerged successful bidder ahead of co-bidders Spain-Portugal and Holland-Belgium and England, which won only two votes. Russia proposed to stage the tournament in 13 cities that would be grouped into four clusters stretching from the exclave of Kaliningrad on the borders of the European Union to Yekaterinburg in the Urals on the fringe of Siberia. Qatar on its part defeated bids from South Korea, Japan, Australia and the United States. Both Russia and Qatar will be holding FIFA World Cup for the first time.
The 2014 FIFA World Cup or the 20th FIFA World Cup is scheduled to take place in June and July 2014 in Brazil.
The 2010 FIFA World Cup or the 19th FIFA World Cup was organised in South Africa from 11 June to 11 July 2010. Spain emerged as winner of the 2010 FIFA World Cup by defeating Netherlands in the final.
