Gopinath Pillai awarded with the Outstanding Service Award for his services in Singapore

Indian-origin diplomat Gopinath Pillai was on 24 April 2015 awarded the Outstanding Service Award for his services in Singapore by the National University of Singapore (NUS). Currently, Pillai is serving as Ambassador-at-Large of Singapore and special envoy to Andhra Pradesh.

He is the chairman of Management Board of the Institute of South Asian Studies, a National University of Singapore funded research institute.

Pillai started his career as a journalist with the firm Reuters, though later he worked in a number of fields including banking. Currently, he is the Chairman of IT Company Savant Infocomm and is also the Director of Gateway Distriparks Ltd in India.

Pillai's diplomatic career started in 1980s with an assignment with Singapore’s Parliamentary Committee on Defence and Foreign Affairs. Since then, he has contributed to Singapore through his distinguished service as a diplomat for more than 25 years.

He was conferred with Padma Shri award in 2012 by the Government of India.
