India is preparing to celebrate its 78th Independence Day on August 15, 2024. This will be the second time that the same Indian PM will be addressing the nation from the historic Red Fort, for the 11th consecutive time, after Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru.
As per the media sources, the Independence Day 2024 celebrations in New Delhi will consist of about 4,000 special guests.
Independence Day 2024: Special Guests
According to a report by The Indian Express, the Indian government has invited a diverse group of guests to the 2024 Independence Day celebrations in New Delhi. These guests include farmers, youth, women, and people from low-income backgrounds. Prime Minister Modi had previously referred to these groups as the “four pillars of a developed India” during a visit to Varanasi.
The special guests are categorized into 11 groups. Among them, 1,000 are from the Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare sector. There are 600 guests from the Youth Affairs category and 300 from Women and Child Development. Another 300 guests will come from Panchayati Raj and Rural Development, and 350 from Tribal Affairs. The School Education and Literacy sector and the Border Roads Organisation/Ministry of Defence each have 200 guests. Health and Family Welfare and Sports have 150 guests each, and there will be 1,200 guests from the Niti Aayog category.

These invitees represent various sectors and communities that are key to India’s development.
PM Modi’s Guest List Includes Students, Tribal
For the 2024 Independence Day celebrations, around 150 students from Eklavya Model Residential Schools, 100 tribal artisans, Van Dhan Vikas Yojana members, and 50 tribal entrepreneurs have been invited. According to India Today, the Indian team from the 2024 Paris Olympics is also expected to attend as special guests for the ceremony.
In total, about 18,000 e-invitations have been sent out for the 78th Independence Day event. All special guests will arrive in Delhi on August 14. During their visit, some guests are scheduled to tour the National War Memorial and meet with senior ministers.
PM Modi to Create History
With the celebration of India's 78th Independence Day, Prime Minister Modi will become the second Prime Minister of India to address the nation for 11th consecutive time. This feat has only been achieved by India's first Prime Minister Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru.
