India, Sri Lanka signed MoU to provide 150 boats & fishing equipment to Mullaithivu fishermen

India and Sri Lanka on 31 March 2016 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide 150 fishing boats and fishing equipment to 300 Tamil fishermen from Mullaithivu in North Sri Lanka.

The boats and equipment will be provided as a part of India’s development assistance programme in Sri Lanka.

The MoU was inked in Colombo at the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development.

Now, the Indian High Commission to Sri Lanka will float a tender to procure the items through a competitive bidding process. The project will cost 100 million Sri Lankan Rupees.

Earlier, India had provided 175 boats and fishing equipment to Tamil fishermen of Mannar region.
