According to data from research body All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists (AIOCD), domestic drugmakers posted sales of Rs 4912 crore in November 2011 compared with Rs 4668 crore in October.
Indian drugmakers posted 21% month-on-month growth in sales of November 2011 which was the highest in the past 14 months. The growth in sales was driven by an increase in demand for respiratory anti-infective drugs.
Ameesh Masurekar, director, AIOCD however is of the opinion that revenue growth would fall 14-15% once the seasonal demand for viral and bacterial infection drugs came down.
Analysts opined that the November sales numbers would improve pharma companies’ revenues for the October-December quarter at a time when most drugmakers are expected to post mark-to-market loss due to rupee depreciation.
The top 20 drug companies registered a double-digit growth, AIOCD data showed. McLeod’s Pharma, which has been growing consistently month-on-month, recorded the highest growth in sales. the drugmaker surpassed Dr Reddy’s in total sales within four-five months.
