India's first hot air balloon safari in a tiger reserve was launched on December 25, 2020 in Madhya Pradesh's world famous Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve. The safari was launched by Madhya Pradesh forest minister Vijay Shah.

During the launch, the Minister said that the hot air balloon wildlife safari will be restricted to the buffer area, from where the tourists will be able to watch leopards, tigers, Indian sloth bear and other wild animals. 

The service will be operated by a Jaipur-based company Sky Waltz.

Significance

The hot air balloon safari is the first in any tiger reserve in the country. The addition of the activity at the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve has added one more adventure for tourists coming to the place. 

Key Highlights 

The hot air balloon safari will give the tourists an aerial view of all the animals hosted by the tiger reserve. 

The Madhya Pradesh forest minister Kunwar Vijay Shah took the inaugural flight aboard the giant Hot Air Balloon. 

Madhya Pradesh state government is planning to introduce the hot air balloon service in its other tiger reserves as well including Kanha, Panna and Pench tiger reserves. 

The Balloon Safari will be operated by SkyWaltz, which is India's first fully licensed and government approved commercial hot Air Balloon operator. 

The company will offering the hot air balloon service from a safe height, while ensuring the safety of the tourists as well as the animals. 

The landing and take off will be allowed only inside buffer zones. 

Background

Madhya Pradesh was declared the Tiger State in 2019. As per the July 2019 Tiger census report, the tiger count in the state had risen from 308 in 2014 to 526 in 2018 .
