Serbian second seed tennis player Novak Djokovic won his first Wimbledon title by beating defending champion Rafael Nadal 6-4, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 on 3 July 2011. Djokovic extended his mastery over Nadal in 2011 with a fifth straight head-to-head victory. Djokovic after winning the title pulled a blade of grass out of the manicured lawn and put it in his mouth.
Nadal lost his world number one ranking to Djokovic, whose march to the top has been driven by a record of 49 wins in his last 50 matches.
The win over Nadal improved Djokovic’s record in 2011 to 48-1, with five victories coming against Nadal. He won two titles in 2011 on hard courts, two on clay and then the Wimbledon title on grass. His victory on 3 July marked the first grass-court title of his career.
Djokovic’s incredible movement and precise shot placement helped him win the first two sets. After his play dipped in the third set, he shot back in the fourth and his game in the fourth set got him his third Grand Slam title.
Top seed Nadal had not lost at the grass-court Grand Slam since the 2007 final against Roger Federer. He however failed to defeat Djokovic in the 125th Wimbledon final.
