The movies that qualify for the Oscars 2025 contest were announced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) on Wednesday. Santosh, a Hindi-language international film set in rural northern India, has been nominated in the 'Best International Feature Film' category.
Out of the 85 films that countries from all around the world submitted, 15 have been chosen for the Oscar shortlist in this category.
A film by NRI Shortlisted For Oscars
The movie was an official submission from the United Kingdom for the 2025 Academy Awards. Additionally, the film earned positive reviews from reviewers when it debuted at the 77th Cannes Film Festival in May 2024.
Santosh: Story of an Indian Young Widow
Directed by Sandhya Suri, the film stars Shahana as a determined young widow who takes over her late husband's job as a police constable through a government scheme. She faces institutional corruption while working with a tough, seasoned detective, Inspector Sharma (played by Sunita Rajwar), to solve the brutal murder of a teenage girl from the lower-caste Dalit community, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Oscar Nomination Voting Schedule
Voting for Oscar nominations in all 23 categories will begin on Wednesday, January 8, and close on Sunday, January 12. The final list of nominees will be revealed on Friday, January 17.
