Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on 31 July 2014 agreed to Ghana’s proposal of land to Punjab farmers. Under the proposal Government of Ghana would offer fertile farmland on a long-term lease to Punjab farmers for farm activities.

The proposal was made by a delegation of Ghana led by Deputy Energy and Petroleum Minister Benjamin Dagadu to the Deputy Chief Minister in Chandigarh. The proposal was made by Ghana to promote  agriculture as a tool of progress in Ghana and if possible then by Punjabi expertise. Ghana’s Minister is on a three-day visit to Punjab.

Punjab’s Minister assured the Ghana’s Minister that Punjab Government would send a high-level delegation of officers as well as an expert from Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, to Ghana to study the suitability of the entire project. He also assured that State government could facilitate farmers to settle down initially on 20000 to 25000 acres of land in Ghana.

Ghana’s Minister Dagadu also announced that to initiate a meaningful business relationship with Punjab shortly Ghana would appoint a business counselor at Ludhiana. Because Ghana thinks that Punjab could also assist it in becoming an agro-based economy.

The Ghanaian minister also said that Punjab could export finished goods to Ghana. Punjabi entrepreneurs can also visit to Ghana to start manufacturing facilities in the country and they can take advantage of Ghana’s natural resources like various minerals, timber, oil, cocoa, palm oil fish and cotton.
