Rashmika Mandanna, a famous south Indian actor, has assumed a fresh role as the country's ambassador for encouraging cyber safety. This is a development subsequent to her being duped by an AI-generated deepfake video that went viral online last year. This fake video sparked a long discussions in the media regarding the safety of an individual on internet.
Based on her own experience, Rashmika wants to encourage internet security and increase public awareness of the risks associated with cybercrime.
Rashmika Mandanna’s New Role
On Tuesday, it was revealed that the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) of the Ministry of Home Affairs has named Rashmika as the National Ambassador for Promoting Cyber Safety.
In her capacity as ambassador, Rashmika will direct national initiatives to raise public awareness of the risks associated with cybercrime, such as deepfake videos, online fraud, cyberbullying, and dangerous content created by artificial intelligence.
The programs' main goal is to increase public awareness of the dangers that exist online, including deepfake videos, financial fraud, cyberbullying, and malicious content created by artificial intelligence.

Rashmika Mandanna's Reaction
"Cybercrime is a dangerous and pervasive threat that affects individuals, businesses, and communities worldwide," she stated while speaking about her new responsibility.
"As someone who has experienced this, I am determined to raise awareness about these issues and spreading the idea of cyber safety to create good change. To counter these dangers and safeguard our digital spaces, we must unite."
The actor also announced the news on Instagram in a video post.
Rashmika Mandanna’s Deepfake Video Incident
A deepfake video of Rashmika Mandanna was posted online on November 6, 2023. In the video, a woman with Rashmika's face, altered using deepfake technology, was seen getting into a lift while wearing a black swimsuit. Many social media users identified it as a deepfake. Rashmika's face was added to a video featuring British influencer Zara Patel. Later, the Delhi Police announced that they had arrested the main person responsible for the viral deepfake.
