Russia and United States agreement on nuclear cooperation entered into force on 11 January 2011. With the enactment of the 123 agreement on nuclear cooperation it would facilitate active collaboration in atomic technologies between Russia and United States for the first time in the history of their relations. The 123 agreement would allow Russia to store and reprocess spent fuel of USA and the latter would get access to state of the art nuclear technologies of Russia. Besides, the agreement opened new opportunities for both Russia and USA in terms of joint projects for scientific and technological research.
In Fact, the 123 agreement between Russia and USA was signed in May 2008 but could not be enacted because of USA objecting to Russia’s invasion of Georgia in the same year.
