Sandeep Saxena appointed as the new Chief Electoral Officer of Tamil Nadu

Sandeep Saxena was appointed as new Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Tamil Nadu on 27 October 2014. He succeeded Praveen Kumar who was holding this post since August 2010.

His appointment as CEO was announced by Chief Secretary Mohan Verghese Chunkath. Saxena is also designated as Principal Secretary to Government, Public (Elections) Department.

His immediate task will be to hold the by-elections to the Srirangam Assembly seat which fell vacant following the disqualification of Former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

•    Sandeep Saxena is an IAS officer of the 1989 batch of the Tamil Nadu cadre.
•    Saxena did his post graduation in water resources engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and Ph.D. in vulnerability assessment from the Anna University.
•    Saxena was the Collector of Damoh from January 2004 to September 2005.
•    He is presently holding the post of State Agricultural Production Commissioner and Principal Secretary of the Agriculture Department since November 2011.
