Sir Schindler Nicholas Winton on 28 October 2014 was awarded the Order of the White Lion of Czech Republic by the President Milos Zeman. The Order of the White Lion is the highest civilian honour of the Czech Republic.
He was awarded at the age of 105 in a ceremony held at Prague Castle, Czech Republic for saving 669 children from Nazis.
Nicholas also known as the British Schindler organised the transportation and settlement of 669 children, mostly Jews from German occupied Czechoslovakia before the Second World War broke out in 1939. He was 29 years old when he arranged trains to take the children out of occupied Czechoslovakia and for foster families to meet them in London.
In 2003, Winton received the Pride of Britain Award for Lifetime Achievement and he was named a British Hero of the Holocaust by the British Government in 2010.
