Sita Brahmachari in February 2011 won the 2011 Waterstone's Children's Book Prize for her children’s novel, Artichoke Hearts. Artichoke Hearts which is Sita's first novel for children is an insightful, honest novel exploring the delicate balance, and often injustice, of life and death. At the heart of the story lies a celebration of friendship, culture and life.
The Waterstone's Children's Book Prize which is in its seventh year was created to champion new and emerging talent in children's writing. The award carries a £5000 cash prize which is one of the most valuable for children's writing in the UK.
