Swachh Survekshan 2020 Rankings List: The Swachh Survekshan 2020 results were announced on August 20, 2020 and Indore retained its top spot for the fourth consecutive time. Indore was adjudged as the cleanest Indian city, followed by Surat on the second spot and Navi Mumbai on the third position. 

The results of the annual survey of cleanliness were announced by Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of State (I/C) for Housing and Urban Affairs during the ‘Swachh Mahotsav’ ceremony on August 20, 2020.

India's top 3 cleanest cities: 

1. Indore

Indore in Madhya Pradesh has been ranked as India’s cleanest city for the 4th year in a row. The Union Housing Minister praised the city and its people for showing exemplary dedication towards cleanliness.

The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh tweeted saying that it was the people of the city who made the achievement possible. 

2. Surat 

Surat, the bustling industrial town of Gujarat, was adjudged as the second cleanest city of India. The Minister congratulated Gujarat CM, people of Gujarat, political leadership of the state and the municipal corporation for this superlative performance.

3. Navi Mumbai 

Navi Mumbai, the planned city off the west coast of Maharashtra in Konkan division, was ranked as India's third cleanest city. The Union Minister congratulated the people and municipal authorities of the city for achieving the remarkable feat.

Jalandhar Cantt

Jalandhar Cantt, which is a cantonment town in Jalandhar District of Punjab, was named as India's Cleanest Cantonment in Swachh Bharat Survekshan 2020. It is one of the oldest cantonments in India, the construction of which had begun after the first Anglo-Sikh War in 1848.

Varanasi

The ancient holy town of Varanasi was named as India's cleanest town on the banks of river Ganga in Swachh Bharat Survekshan 2020. The town is popularly regarded as the spiritual capital of India.

Swachh Bharat Survekshan 2020

This year is the fifth edition of the Swachh Bharat Survekshan 2020. The survey was introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January 2016. Overall, 129 top performing cities and states were awarded this year during the virtual ‘Swachh Mahotsav’, which was organised by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. 

The Swachh Survekshan 2020 covered a total of 4,242 cities, 62 cantonment boards and 92 towns on the banks of river Ganga. The survey took a total of 28 days to get completed.  The survey was completely digitized and paperless.
