NPP's Conrad Sangma sworn-in as Chief Minister of Meghalaya
Conrad Sangma, the President of National People's Party (NPP), was on March 6, 2018 sworn-in as the 12th Chief Minister of Meghalaya. Sangma is the youngest son of former Lok Sabha Speaker late PA Sangma.
Despite Congress winning the largest number of seats in the state, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the National People's Party (NPP) are set to rule Meghalaya.
Earlier, NPP president Conrad Sangma was invited by the Governor Ganga Prasad to form the government after he submitted a letter of support from 34 legislators in the 60-member Meghalaya Assembly and staked claim to form the next state government.
Sri Lankan Government declares nation-wide emergency over communal violence
The Sri Lankan government has decided to declare a nation-wide emergency for a period of 10 days to control the law and order situation following the outbreak of violence against the minority community in its central district, Kandy.
The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by President Maithripala Sirisena on March 6, 2018.
The decision comes as curfew was re-imposed in two police divisions of Kandy district following clashes between majority Sinhalese Buddhists and minority Muslims. The district has witnessed days of unrest between the two religious communities with a Buddhist man being killed and Muslim businesses set ablaze.
Government constitutes a Steering Committee on Fintech related issues
The Union Government on March 5, 2018 constituted a Steering Committee to study various issues related to Fintech space in India. The Committee will operate under the Chairmanship of Subhash Chandra Garg, Secretary of Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), Union Ministry of Finance.
The constitution of the Committee came following the announcement made by the Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in his Budget Speech 2018-19.
The Committee will study the issues related to the Fintech sector in India with a view to make Fintech related regulations more flexible and generate enhanced entrepreneurship.
North Korea seeks to ease military tensions with South in historic meeting
In a historic meeting, the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un met senior government officials from South Korea for the first time and said it is his firm will to vigorously advance inter-Korean ties and pursue reunification.
A 10-member South Korean delegation led by National Security Office head Chung Eui-Yong travelled to North Korea’s capital city, Pyongyang, on March 5, 2018 for a two-day trip with the hopes of opening a communication channel between the North and the United States of America.
Chung had said before leaving Seoul that his team would deliver the South Korean president's wish to bring about denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula and permanent peace.

Forbes India on March 5, 2018 released the "W-Power Trailblazers" issue 2018, featuring 25 women stars on the ascendency in business.
The 25 women stars included names like Chiki Sarkar, publisher of Juggernaut Books, Adhuna Bhabani, founder-director of Bblunt, Anupriya Acharya, CEO (India) of Publicis Media. Kavitha Sairam, co-founder of FIB-SOL Life Technologies, Dina Wadia and Shivpriya Nanda, joint managing partners of J Sagar Associates also made it to the issue this time.
