The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council on December 22, 2018 slashed GST Rates for 23 commonly used goods and services. The reduced rates will come into effect from January 1, 2019. The GST rate on Music Books was slashed to Nil from 12 percent.

The National Consumer Day was observed across India on December 24, 2018 with the theme “Timely Disposal of Consumer Complaints”. On this day, the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 had received the assent of the president.

The National Mathematics Day is observed every year on 22 December in India. It was initiated by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in 2012. It is observed to honour the birth anniversary of the famous mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan.

Indian woman Vedangi Kulkarni has become the fastest Asian to cycle the globe. The 20-year-old Vedangi cycled into Kolkata on December 23, 2018, completing the 29,000 kilometers' distance required to qualify as bicycling across the globe.

Belgium will end the year 2018 at the top rank, ahead of world champions France, as per the global rankings released by FIFA on December 21, 2018. Belgium, which lost to France in the World Cup semi-finals, edged the team out of its top spot by one ranking point. Belgium has 1,727 points by FIFA's calculations in comparison to France’s 1,726. Brazil is placed on the third place with 1,676 points.
