Uttar Pradesh government on 8 November 2011 announced the 20 percent MSP (Minimum Support Price) hike for sugarcane for the current season. Following this, the sugarcane farmers will get 240 rupees as MSP for every quintal of crop sold in the state.The government decision is likely to benefit 40 lakh farmers in the state.


According to an estimate, the sugarcane production is likely to be around 1200 lakh tonnes in 2011-12 as against the production of 1050 lakh tonnes in 2010-11.
