The Upper Ganga Canal Expressway project began 11 years ago to create a direct highway link between Noida, Greater Noida, and Dehradun. However, after its launch in 2013, the project was halted for a long time. Now, work on the expressway is finally set to resume.
This ambitious eight-lane expressway will connect Greater Noida with Sanauta and Ghaziabad. It will then pass through Meerut and Muzaffarnagar before reaching Purkazi in Dehradun, improving road connectivity in the region.

The ambitious eight-lane expressway, which first began in 2013 but was abruptly stopped, will finally move forward, connecting Greater Noida with Sanauta and Ghaziabad, as well as passing through Meerut and Muzaffarnagar before arriving at Purkazi, Dehradun.
Project to be Completed by Nov 2025
According to a media outlet, the government intends to complete the project by November 2025. Additionally, it entails building a 23.5-kilometer Link Expressway that will link South-West Meerut to the DFC terminal facilities and Meerut Airport. In addition, a new 3.5-kilometer motorway will be built next to NH-24, close to Dasna Falls.
Water Sports at Ganga Canal
The land has been chosen at six important locations along the route to improve transportation and logistics. This will make the canal easier to navigate, encourage tourism, and open up chances for water sports. Additionally, the route will see the expansion and improvement of seven hydroelectric power units.
A budget of Rs 8,700 crore was made available to build 147.8 kilometers of expressway. It will begin at the Sanauta bridge in Bulandshahr run along the Ganga Canal to Purkazi in Muzaffarnagar and conclude at the border between Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

The expressway will start at the Sanauta Bridge in Bulandshahr and follow the Ganga Canal to Purkazi in Muzaffarnagar. It will pass through major locations, including:
- Greater Noida
- Sanauta
- Ghaziabad
- Meerut
- Muzaffarnagar
- Deoband
- Purkazi (Muzaffarnagar)
- Ends at the Uttar Pradesh-Uttarakhand border
This route will enhance connectivity between Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, making travel faster and more efficient.
The expressway is expected to increase communication between the two states, giving commuters a more comfortable journey. Additionally, the motorway will promote residential, commercial, and industrial growth.
