As we all know that 350 years ago Mughal emperor Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal for his favourite wife Mumtaz Mahal. Similarly, Faizul Hasan Qadri a retired 80 years old post master from Kaser Kalan village around 50 km from Bulandshahr distt, Western Uttar Pradesh is building a replica of the heritage in memory of his late ‘Begum’.
He married Tajamulli, his maternal uncle’s daughter in 1953. They have no children and in 2011 she died due to throat cancer, he buried her on his agricultural land. Qadri had promised her wife that he will build a mausoleum after her death. And so, he devoted all his finances in setting up a ‘mini Taj Mahal’ to show his love for her. Even he had sold a piece of land and his wife’s jewellery to meet the construction demands. But still after three years, construction is not yet completed. In total he had spent around 11 Lakhs and need Rs 6 to 7 lakhs more too built greenery around it, Koranic calligraphy inscriptions and in the monument marbles are still left to be stubbed. As, he earns a pension of Rs 10,500 after he retired as a senior post office clerk, besides the agricultural income from his vast land.
Even the residents of this small village didn’t expected that they will have a new landmark in their village. But Qadri’s ‘Mini Taj Mahal’ proved and this small monument is visible from the main highway where people in cars, including a car from sub-divisional magistrate’s office, scooters etc. stop and see the monument which makes the lane soo popular.
This Mini Taj Mahal stands on a 5000 square feet plot while the Taj Mahal stands at 561 feet and is flanked by four 130 feet minarets. Even Taj Mahal is eight cornered with rooms inside where as ‘mini Taj’ is a simple four-corner structure with Qadri wife graves in it. ‘mini Taj’ looks like a Taj Mahal but it is a bare concrete structure stands in the middle of a green field with four pillars. Interesting thing is that like Shah Jahan’s prison cell from where he could see the Taj Mahal in the same way Qadri built the monument from where he can see it through his room’s window. And pictures of his wife & the Maqbara Yadgare Mohabbat Tajammuli Begum, the official name for his ‘mini Taj’ are kept neatly on a shelf.
Further, in his ‘mini Taj’ he had kept a little space reserved to the right of his wife’s grave in the mausoleum where he wants that after his death he should be buried there. The dome is prepared and constructed the four minars which is a little more than 27-feet in height. He will also plant some trees around it and also make a small water body at the back side of the building. Amazing thing is that many people and CM of UP Akhilesh Yadav offered Qadri for some financial help in completing the work of ‘mini Taj’ but he refused to take the help because he want it to complete on his own which is his personal endeavour for his wife and of course his love for her.
Once in past he and his wife were discussing and thinking that when they will die who will remember them. So, from here only he got an idea of building ‘mini Taj’. Isn’t it interesting?
Qadri spend most of his time in his new house nearby ‘mini Taj’ and he told his brother to bury him by the side of his wife in the great mausoleum itself. Infact he had also deposited the fees with the Wakf board. He just wants to complete the construction before he die. As, it is the law of nature who has taken birth on earth will die some or the other day.
