Border Security Force (BSF) is the primary security force guarding the Indian borders. BSF is one of the five Central Armed Police Forces of India. After the Indo-Pak war of 1965, the Border Security Force (BSF) was established on 1st December, 1965 with the objective to ensure the security of the borders and border areas of India.
Border Security Force works to guarding the borders of India and prevent international crime during peace time. It is a central government agency under the Ministry of Home Affairs. The head of Border Security Force (BSF) is called DG, who is an officer of Indian Police Service.
Currently, under the 186 battalion of BSF, 2.5 lakh military personnel are employed, including Air Wing, Sea Wing, Artillery Regiment and Commando units. Currently BSF is world's largest border security force. The motto of the Border Security Force is "Duty Unto Death". On the uniform of Director General, sword and baton remain in the form of a cross and mark of the national symbol of India Ashoka pillar has also presented. K. F. Rustamaji was the first Director General of Border Security Force.
