List of Governors of Punjab: The Governor heads the state government. He or she is a titular head or constitutional head. He or she is also the agent of the centre as the union government nominates Governors in each state. In the Indian Constitution, Article 153 -167 deals with the provisions related to the state governments of the country.
The current Governor of Punjab is Banwarilal Purohit. The Governor forms an important part of the state executive where he or she acts as the chief executive head. Usually, there is a governor for each state, but the 7th Constitutional Amendment Act 1956 facilitated the appointment of the same person as a governor of two or more states.

Key facts
- Sir Chandulal Madhanlal Trivedi was an Indian administrator and civil servant. He served as the first Governor of the state of Punjab (then East Punjab) after Independence in 1947. He subsequently served as the first Governor of Andhra Pradesh from its creation in 1953 until 1957.
- In 1940, Sir Chandeshwar Prasad Narayan Singh was invited by the former PM Jawaharlal Nehru to become India's ambassador to Nepal.
- Gadgil between 1947 - 1952 served as a minister in the first central cabinet of Independent India. He held the portfolios of Public, Work, Commerce, and Mines, and Power. He also initiated the project of building a military-caliber road from Pathankot to Srinagar via Jammu in Kashmir as a part of India's activities in the 1947 Indo-Pakistan War. During 1952-55, he was a member of the Congress Working Committee.
- In 1985, the Indian Post & Telegraph Department issued a commemorative postage stamp in Gadgil's honour.
- Pattom A. Thanu Pillai was known as the 'Bhishmacharya of Kerala politics'. He also became the Governor of Andhra Pradesh on 4 May 1964 and remained in office till 11 April 1968.
- Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal is awarded in all prestigious Indian universities. The award was constituted in 1994, by endowments received from Shankar Dayal Sharma. This medal is awarded to a graduating student adjudged to be the best in terms of general proficiency like character, conduct and excellence performance, extra-curricular activities, and social science.
