The population of Maharashtra was 11.24 Crores as per Census 2011. As per the information, there is an increase from the figure of 9.69 Crore in census 2001. The total population of the state was 112,374,333 per the Census 2011. Out of which 58,243,056 were males and 54,131,277 were females. However in the year 2001, the total population of the state was 96,878,627 out of which the number of males was 50,400,596 and the number of females was 46,478,031.
The growth in the decade in the total population was 15.99 % however in the previous decade the population growth was 22.57%. Maharashtra’s population forms 9.28 % of India in the year 2011 however it formed 9.42 % in 2001.
