What is QuEST?

QuEST was launched in 2017. It is implemented by Raman Research Institute (RRI) in collaboration with Indian Space Research Organization, ISRO.

Raman Research Institute's quantum information and computing or QuIC lab is the agency conducting the experiment in particular

It is India's first ever project on satellite based long distance quantum communications.

The results of the project were observed in February 2021.

Quantum Key Distribution:

The Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) technology is the technology behind Quantum Communication technology ensuring unconditional data security by using it’s principles of quantum mechanics, which may be impossible using conventional encryption systems. It utilises a cryptographic protocol that involves components of quantum mechanics.

The technology would be useful in enabling various start-ups and small and medium enterprises in the domain of quantum information.

Quantum Communications is useful for a range of strategic sectors like defence and digital money transactions and banks. ISRO also plans to extend this to the satellites developed by it.

Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI)

The Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence is a multi-stakeholder initiative.

The partnership aims to use the technology that bridges the gap between theory and practical on Artificial Intelligence through research and applied activities on AI-related priorities.

Structure:

GAPI Council- Consists of ministerial level members and provides direction to GPAI in all major decisions.

Steering Committee- It comprises an elected body comprising five government members from the Council along with six non-government representatives from the Multistakeholder Experts Group Plenary.

GPAI Secretariat is hosted at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris.

Multi-stakeholder Experts Group Plenary is a group of 100-150 experts from science, industry, civil society, trade unions, international organizations and governments that discuss outputs and projects for forward-looking collaboration.

Centres of Expertise are two in number with one in Montreal And other in Paris.

Anti-Cancer Ophiorrhiza recurvipetala:

Ophiorrhiza recurvipetala has been found at 675 metres above the mean sea level in Assam. It has been found in Haflong and Jatinga, in Dima Hasao district. Recurvipetala is the name used for plants where the petals are curved back.

There is a secondary metabolite present in it called Camptothecin that is used in colon cancer.

It is a perennial herb with a maximum height of 60 cm and with branches bearing cream flowers.

Colon Cancer:

This cancer affects the large intestine and is the third most deadly type in the world

The first two most deadly cancers are breast and lung cancer respectively

The cancer of the colon is caused by a malignant tumor arising from the inner wall of the large intestine (colon) or rectum.

The diagnosis of colon-rectal cancer can be made by sigmoidoscopy or by colonoscopy

The cancer is confirmed with biopsy of cancerous tissue
