Who is Maa Kalratri?
Maa Kalratri, the seventh form of Goddess Durga, is also known as the goddess who removes darkness and ushers in light. Her name is derived from two words: 'Kala', meaning time or death, and 'Ratri', meaning night.
Maa Kalratri is often depicted with a dark complexion, fiery eyes, and dishevelled hair. She rides a mule, holds a sword and an iron hook, and her breath emanates fire. Despite her fearsome appearance, she is a compassionate protector of her devotees, offering them the courage and strength to face life's challenges.

What is the Story and Significance of Maa Kalratri?
According to legend, two powerful demons named Shumbh and Nishumbh, with the help of devils Chanda, Munda, and Raktabeej, wreaked havoc across the three worlds, causing immense chaos.
Despite numerous attempts, no one could defeat them, and the situation worsened each day. In desperation, Lord Indra and other divine beings approached Maa Parvati for help. Moved by their helplessness, the goddess created Maa Chandi to slay the demons.
Maa Chandi fearlessly battled Shumbh and Nishumbh on the battlefield and ultimately defeated them. However, she struggled with Chanda, Munda, and Raktabeej due to the powerful boons they had received from the gods.
To overcome this challenge, Maa Chandi transformed into the fierce form of Maa Kalratri. She successfully slayed Chanda and Munda, earning her the name Chamunda.
Yet, Raktabeej remained a difficult foe because of his special boon from Lord Brahma—every drop of his blood that touched the ground would create a new clone of him. Determined to end the chaos, Maa Kalratri devised a strategy.
She drank Raktabeej’s blood as she fought him, preventing any drops from falling to the ground. Finally, she succeeded in eliminating Raktabeej, restoring peace and balance to the universe.
Worshipping Maa Kalratri on the seventh day of Navratri is believed to bring immense blessings, particularly the destruction of ignorance, negativity, and fear.
She grants her devotees freedom from unnecessary fears and worries, helping them navigate the darkness in their lives, both physically and mentally.
