AICTE’s Lilavati Award 2020: Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal felicitated the Lilavati Award Distribution Ceremony by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) along with Union Minister of Textiles and Women and Child Development Smriti Irani. The event was held at the office of AICTE at Vasant Kunj. For the AICTE’s Lilavati Award, a total of 456 entries had been received and out of them, 25 best entries across the 6 sub-themes were selected by renowned experts of the area. The theme for the award was Women Empowerment, and the six sub-themes were - Women's Health, Sanitation and Hygiene, Literacy, Self-Defense, Women Entrepreneurship and Legal Awareness. To enroll for the AICTE’s Lilavati Award 2020, the participants had to upload photos and a short video of their projects based on any of the sub-themes. The winning team has got Rs 1,00,000, while the first runner-up and second runner-up has received Rs 75,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively.
AICTE’s Lilavati Award 2020 Winners
The SWEAT (Sona Women Entrepreneurship and Training) from Sona College of Technology, Tamil Nadu won the contest in the ' Women Entrepreneurship' sub-theme. The runner-up award was given to Bharatiya Vidyapeeth, under the 'Digital Literacy' sub-theme. Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship Development Pune won the award under the sub-theme 'Literacy'. Also, the WIT Women Health Coalition from Walchand Institute of Technology, Maharashtra, won the award under the 'Women's Health' sub-theme. Apart from these, Ms Radiant Seetha from Thiagarajar Polytechnic College won the contest in the 'Legal Awareness' whereas Ms Paritrana from St. Joseph's College of Engineering, Tamil Nadu won the award for the 'Self Defense.'

Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal said, "I congratulate all the winners and all the 456 teams who took part in this contest. Women empowerment is the need of society, and initiatives like this from AICTE deserve special applause."

However, that is not right, as if given a chance and opportunities, women will also prove their mettle as entrepreneurs. AICTE Vice Chairman Dr MP Poonia told, "Ensuring empowerment of women is very much necessary for a better future, and initiatives like Lilavati award from AICTE could catalyze these efforts to ensure strengthening of women in the nation. With such initiatives, AICTE aims to assure the well-being of the girl child, adolescents, and women and focus on their development by creating awareness on gender equality."
Bharatiya Vidyapeeth, who won the award under the Digital Literacy said, "Post-2014, the internet revolution happened in India, and it has helped women in the country to grow, as information is accessible at their fingertips. However, even now, several women in the country do not have sufficient digital literacy, and we should bring them too to the forefront of the society."
About AICTE’s Lilavati Award 2020
The AICTE's Lilavati award is awarded for promoting and practising the ideas of gender equality. The overall theme of the award ceremony was women empowerment. The award has been given to individuals and institutes affiliated with AICTE for their contribution in the area of women empowerment.AICTE's Lilavati award 2020 has been presented to those teams which have utilised the Indian traditional values to promote the values such as cleanliness, health, and nutrition.
