The Andhra Pradesh government on Wednesday approved reimbursement of college fees, hostel fee and mess fee for the students eligible under the Jagananna Vidya Deewana scheme. The decision to reimburse the fee was approved by the cabinet which has allocated Rs. 3,400 crore every year for 100 percent fee reimbursement under the Jagananna Vidya Deewana scheme.
The allocation amount is Rs.1,800 crore more than the budget allotted by the previous Telugu Desam government. This will in turn help in the entire amount which the eligible students pay as college tuition fees in a year be reimbursed.
The Cabinet has approved a separate amount of Rs. 2300 crore every year under the Jagananna Vasathi Dewaana scheme for the hostel and mess charges. Under the Jagananna Vasathi Dewaana scheme, the students of Industrial Training Institutes will receive Rs. 10,000 every year while the polytechnic students will receive Rs. 1500 and the junior college students will receive Rs. 20,000 per year as their mess charges. This amount will be paid in two installments which are in December and July and will be credited into the accounts of the mother of the students.
This comes at a time when students from Jawaharlal Nehru University Delhi have been protesting against the sudden hike in the hostel fee which was done by the college administration. In spite of two rollback issued the students have not stopped protesting against the university administration demanding a complete roll back in the hostel fee hike and the changes incorporated in the hostel manual.
The HRD Ministry in order to resolve the matter has issued a special committee that will look into the matter and conduct a meeting with the students and the university administration with an aim to control and possibly put an end to the whole issue.
The students of the university have been protesting since the past few weeks taking out protest marches against the fee hike in the hostels.
