CBSE Exam Pattern 2024-25: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced significant changes to the CBSE Exam Pattern for Class 11 and 12 from the academic session 2024-25. The examinations will include more competency-based questions to assess students’ ability to apply concepts to real-life situations.

CBSE has introduced these changes to align with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The CBSE Class 11 and Class 12 Board Exam 2025 will see a higher number of application-based questions than theoretical questions. About 50% of questions in the CBSE Exam will test the practical knowledge of students.

As per the latest information, CBSE clarified that there will be no changes in the exam format of Classes 9 and 10. This decision has been taken to maintain consistency across different grades. Moreover, the number of constructed response questions has been significantly reduced. The percentage decrease of such questions including short and long-form answers is from 40 to 30%.

Implementation of Competency-Based Education

Discussing the importance of application-based education, the Director (Academics) of CBSE, Joseph Emanuel mentioned that the board under the National Education Policy 2020 has taken multiple steps towards implementation of Competency-Based Education in schools, ranging from aligning assessment to competencies, development of exemplar resources for teachers and students as well as continuous capacity building of the teachers.

He added that the main emphasis of the board was to create an educational ecosystem that would move away from rote memorization and towards learning that is focused on developing the creative, critical, and systems thinking capacities of students to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

In addition, the CBSE board is continuing to align the assessments and evaluation practices with NEP 2020 for the academic session 2024-25. Joseph also mentioned the percentage of Competency-Based Questions in the question papers has been altered.
