CLAT 2020: Supreme Court of India refused to cancel CLAT 2020 Law Entrance Exam and stop the counselling process that is currently underway for granting of law admissions in NLUs across the country. Earlier, a petition was filed by 5 candidates seeking squashing of the examination due to technical glitches during the examination. Dismissing the plea filed by the law aspirants, the apex court instead directed them to file a complaint for the problems they had faced during the examination through the grievance redressal committee.

Complaint Addressed To Grievance Committee

The petition filed by 5 candidates who had appeared for the CLAT 2020 law entrance exam, was heard by a bench comprising Justices Ashok Bhushan and M R Shah. During the hearing, senior lawyer P S Narasimha, appearing for consortium of NLUs, informed the court that the exam authority i.e. the consortium had already put in place a high-powered grievance redressal committee which is headed by a former Chief Justice of India which can consider the issues of the petitioners. Following this, the apex court had directed the candidates to reach out to the committee and file their complaint before it.

40,000 Objections Raised by Candidates

Appearing for the petitioners, senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan had earlier informed the court that for 2020 session, the CLAT 2020 exam was held in online format and there were several complaints and technical glitches that have been faced by the candidates during the law entrance test. He also added that many candidates had pointed that several questions asked in the exam were incorrect and even software did not record some of the answers correctly. He concluded his argument saying that over 40,000 objections with regard to various aspects of the CLAT has been received this year, of which 19,000 have not been addressed or answered by the consortium, raising some serious doubts about the conduct of the law entrance exam. Advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan also pointed out that for the first time, only 3 per cent students have crossed the 50 per cent marks of total 150 marks, he said.
