CLAT 2021 Exam Pattern Revised: As per the latest update, the Consortium of National Law Universities has revised the examination pattern for the CLAT 2021 Law Entrance exam. The major change in CLAT 2021 have been made to the postgraduate level test, in which subjective section has been reintroduced by the exam authority. The changes introduced CLAT PG 2021 Exam Pattern is likely to impact the preparation strategy for the students, who will now also need to prepare for CLAT PG Essay Section as well. Meanwhile, there are no changes to the exam patterns and syllabus in UG-CLAT 2021.
Is CLAT PG Essay Section Really New?
Law aspirants who are familiar with the CLAT PG Exam pattern would know that subjective section is not really a new change being introduced by the Consortium. However, those who are not aware should note that last year, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic throwing the academic calendar out of gear, the consortium had decided to do away with the subjective section. Therefore, CLAT PG 2020 exam was held without an essay section and consisted only of objective section.
Minimum Cut-Off Criteria for Subjective Section
Another important thing to note for candidates who are planning to appear for CLAT 2021 LLM Exam is that the exam authority sets minimum cut-off criteria for the subjective section. As per the latest announcement, the subjective or essay section of only those aspirants would be evaluated, who qualify or are able to meet the minimum cut-off criteria announced by the consortium in the objective section.
CLAT PG 2021 Test Structure as per New Pattern
Now, with all the details available to us, it is important for candidates to know the overall test structure for LLM Entrance Exam under CLAT 2021, which will help them prepare well for the test. As per the new exam pattern, the CLAT PG 2021 exam will consist of two sections i.e. objective and subjective sections.

Objective Section: The objective section will consist of 100 MCQs which are to be answered as per the various comprehension passages provided in the paper. This section is designed to test ability of candidates to read and comprehend the issues discussed in the passage and to understand the arguments and viewpoints set out in the passage. It also tests legal awareness and aptitude of the candidates.
Subjective Section: For subjective section, candidates will need to write two essays which is aimed at evaluating candidates’ the writing skills and their ability to structure answers and arguments in an orderly manner. Each essay under the subjective session will have a word-limit of 800 words.
