According to media reports, the Himachal Pradesh State Government has decided to reopen the schools and colleges in the state from November 2, 2020. The state government has however notified that the classes in schools will be conducted only for the students from classes 9 to 12.
The state government has also permitted the colleges across the states to reopen ensuring that the college administrations follow the COVID-19 guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs strictly by all the staff as well as students. The state government took the decision regarding the reopening of the schools after a state cabinet meeting was conducted with Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur who presided over the meeting.
The state Urban and Housing Minister Suresh Bharadwaj while speaking about the decision made stated that even the state government has allowed the schools to reopen and the schools will not be allowed to impose mandatory attendance.
Attendance Not Mandatory
Bharadwaj while speaking to the media regarding the reopening of the schools stated that although a decision has been taken to reopen the schools from November 2, 2020, and the schools will not be allowed to make it mandatory for the students to attend the classes. The students will be given the choice if they wish to attend the classes or not and the students can consult the teachers and a decision can be taken based on the academic needs of the students for the ongoing academic year.
Guidelines for school reopening
The educational institutions have also been asked to the standard operating procedure for resuming the classes. Bharadwaj further added that in case the number of students opting for regular classes is high the institutions can make arrangements for dividing the students into groups and conduct classes in two shifts. Institutions have also been asked to arrange for sanitizers and hand wash liquids along with ensuring that social distancing rules are strictly followed.
