JNU has released circular asking students stranded in the university to return home since the university is not expected to reopen until June 25, 2020. Check the details here.

JNU students asked to go home

According to an official advisory released by the JNU Inter-Hostel Administration, the university authorities have asked the students stranded in the university to return home. This appeal has been made since an opportunity has come in for the students to go back home. It has also been pointed out by the university officials that there is another month for the university to reopen for the next academic year as per the new UGC guidelines and the altered academic calendar.

As per the circular, some of the students in the university had earlier itself left for their respective hometowns when the first circular was issued regarding the lockdown in March 2020.

The central government had further extended the lockdown in the country until May 31, 2020, with certain relaxations in place. The interstate transportation has begun with special trains in place for the people stranded in the cities to go back to their respective hometowns.

In the wake of the increasing pandemic situation in the country, the students have been asked to return to their hometowns and come back only after the university activities resume.

Students on the campus however are of the opinion that returning to their hometowns at this point in time will cause a health risk for the travelling students. The students have alleged that it will not be safe for the student to travel at a time when the number of cases seem to keep increasing in several parts of the country.

The students have stated that the reservation of seats in the special trains is uncertain further raising the question as to whether the university wishes to make the students travel twice in a time period of one month during such a pandemic situation.

JNU is scheduled to reopen on June 25, 2020, as per the new academic calendar. With the lockdown in place since March 2020, the university has begun conducting online classes for the students. If the situation normalizes across the country, the university is expected to begin the academic session for the regular students from June 25, 2020, onwards.
