The Karnataka Education Department has warned action against the schools in the state conducting online classes for Kindergarten students. This comes in spite of the Central Government supporting online classes during the COVID-19 lockdown. The state government has decided to take strict action against the schools conducting online classes for the students of LKG and UKG.
In a recent press meeting, the Karnataka State Education Minister stated that several complaints have been received regarding schools conducting online classes for the students from LKG and UKG. The minister condemned the same on twitter stating it as greed and sought the reason from the schools for conducting online classes for the LKG and UKG students.
Addressing the media, the education minister said that he has addressed the same to the Education Commissioner and he also agrees that conducting online classes for the LKG and UKG students is not right. He further pointed out that students must not force parents to purchase laptops.
The teachers from some of the schools in the state are also of the opinion that conducting online classes is nothing more than a way for the school to make money. One of the teachers said that it is difficult to grab the attention of the students during the class when they are at home and parents have to be present during the classes which make the whole procedure useless.
Some of the parents are however of the opinion that a few hours of activity during the day is not wrong adding that schools have conducted an orientation session with the parents to emphasize that students will forget their alphabets and numbers if they are not practicing often. Although it has been stated that in order for the students to sit through the class, the parents are required to set aside their days work.
