Meghalaya School Reopening News: Meghalaya Government has sought opinion and feedback from parents on the matter of reopening of schools in the state, before taking the final decision on the matter. Speaking to media persons, Meghalaya Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said that the Education Department has already issued instructions for the same to the Director of School Education. Apart from parents, the state government also plans to involve other stakeholders such as managing committees and teachers and take their opinions to understand if schools can be reopened or not for resumption of normal classes. The move comes following Home Ministry’s Unlock 5.0 Guidelines which allowed reopening of schools from 15th October 2020 in a graded manner.

Final Decision by 15^th / 16^th October

As per the directions issued by the Department of Education, Meghalaya Government, the concerned stakeholders, including parents and teachers, have been asked to submit their feeback by 14^th October 2020. The director of school education has been asked to collate all the responses received from the concerned stakeholders and submit them for perusal by 15^th October 2020. According to Education Minister Rymbui, in line with the feedback received the state government will announce the final decision about reopening of schools on 15^th or 16^th October 2020.

Doubt Solving Sessions for Class 6 to 9 Students

Along with seeking feedback from parents and other stakeholders, the state government has also allowed students of Class 6, 7 and 8 to visit schools for voluntary  doubt solving sessions from 15^th October 2020 onwards. Earlier, such visits were only allowed for Class 9 to 12 students that too only with the consent of their parents; this facility has now been extended to upper-primary school students as well.

As part of its measures to reduce the academic burden on the students, the state government has already curtailed the school syllabus for all the students. In addition to this, the state government has also floated an alternative academic calendar that provides a descriptive study plan, keeping in mind the loss of time due to the lockdown and aids students and teachers in completing the school syllabus for academic year 2020-21.
