According to reports, the Central Board of Secondary Education has asked the schools affiliated with the board to celebrate National Reading Day week and Reading Month with online reading-related activities. The National Reading Day is celebrated to honour the father of the ‘Library Movement in Kerala’ late PN Panicker whose death anniversary is commemorated on June 19, 2021.
The 26th National Reading Day will be celebrated on June 19, 2021, and the following week as Reading Week and Reading Month which will be celebrated from June 19 to July 18, 2021. The PN Panicker Foundation has listed activities for schools and colleges on its official website - pnpanickerfoundation.org.
Activities planned for Reading Day/ Reading Month
A few of the activities suggested by the foundation include webinars on the importance of reading, digital library, and intellectual property rights, COVID-19 awareness, Green Economy etc.
The foundation has also suggested Quiz, Open Art, and Essay writing competitions for the school children while the foundation has suggested quiz and video book competitions for the teachers, faculty members, and librarians.
In the notification issued the CBSE has requested the schools to celebrate Reading Day Week and Reading Month by conducting similar online activities as suggested by the foundation or other activities which involve technology for the students.
The schools have also been asked to encourage the participation of the students in the online activities and competitions conducted by the foundation. For further details, students can visit the official website of the foundation.
