As per media reports, the Final Year PG Exams for the medical students is yet to be scheduled by the universities across the country. With the students on CVID-19 duty, they have urged the Supreme court to postpone the final year examinations.
The Supreme Court has refused to pass an order in favor of the Public Interest Litigation filed by a group of MD students. As per reports, the vacation bench of the Supreme Court decided not to pass a general order since the dates for the Final Year PG Exams 2021 are yet to be announced by many of the universities. The Supreme Court judge questioned how a general order can be passed when there are many universities involved in the case.
The MD students who filed the PIL claimed that preparing for the exams and attending the COVID-19 duties simultaneously is unfair on their part and in order to address this issue, the National Medical Commission has advised the universities to fix dates for the Final Year PG exams considering the COVID-19 situation.
The SC bench further stated that whenever possible the Supreme Court has granted relief to the students however the final year PG exams are a case where the court cannot give any relief as many universities are involved.
The petitioners have also asked for directions to promote the students as senior residents as soon as the scheduled tenure is completed. The Supreme Court Vacation Bench had issued a notice to the Union Government and the National Medical Commission on the requests of the students. The postgraduate students have also been advised to keep track of the schedule of the Final Year PG exams and prepare for the same accordingly.
