As per recent media reports, the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, Madras, Mandi, and Indore have been appointed with new Directors. Professor Rangan Banerjee from IIT Bombay has been appointed as the next Director of IIT Delhi, Professor V Kamakoti from IIT Madras who also designed India's first indigenously developed microprocessor - Shakti has been appointed as the new Director of IIT Madras. Professor Laxmidhar Behera, Electrical Engineering Department IIT Kanpur has been appointed as the new Director of IIT Mandi and Mechanical Engineering Department professor and Dean of Alumni and Corporate Relations, Professor Suhas Joshi from IIT Bombay has been appointed as the next director of IIT Indore.
About Professor V Kamakoti
Professor V Kamakoti will be succeeding Professor Bhaskar Ramamurthi who has completed two terms as the Director of IIT Madras. Professor Kamakoti who is an alumnus of IIT Madras led the research team which designed and booted India's first indigenously developed Microprocessor Shakti which can be used in mobile computing devices and networking systems.
Professor V Kamakoti who is a faculty at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering is presently the Associate Dead for Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research at IIT Madras and also a member of the National Security Advisory Board, Government of India. He was appointed as the Chairman of a Taskforce on Leveraging Artificial Intelligence for Development across various fields by the Union Commerce Ministry in 2017.
When speaking to the media about his priorities, Professor Kamakoti stated that in the last two declared IIT Madras has focused on Interdisciplinary translational research of relevance to the Nation but it is needed to reach out to a larger number of students through NPTEL, SWAYAM, and online degree programmes.
He further added that with these gathered strengths, the immediate priority will be on augmenting the skillsets for indigenous technology development addressing local and global requirements aligning them with the objectives of the National Education Policy.

About Professor Rangan Banerjee
A Forbes Marshall Chair Professor in the Department of Energy Science and Engineering at IIT Bombay, Professor Rangan Banerjee has been appointed as the new Director of IIT Delhi. He will be succeeding Professor V Ramgopal Rao.
Professor Rangan is an alumnus of IIT Bombay and joined IIT Bombay as a Visiting Assistant Professor in October 1993 and became Assistant Professor and Associate professor in July 1994 and June 1997 respectively.
He has also been involved with setting up a Megawattscale Solar Thermal Power Testing, Simulation, Research Facility sponsored by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and is also the Faculty Advisor to Team Shunta - India’s first student team in the Delar Decathlon 2014 Europe Finals which involves designing and constructing fully functional solar houses.
About Professor Laxmidhar Behera
Professor Behera is the Poonam and Prabhu Goel Chair Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Kanpur specializing in Robotics and AI. When speaking to the media he stated that he had shared his plan to focus on certain areas including climate-controlled agriculture, bioenergy, robotics, and AI, and cognitive science. He further stated that his prime focus will be on improving the ranking of IIT Mandi.
