A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed by the National Institute of Technology, Warangal with the ABB Power Grids India for Smart Electric Grid (SEG) Education. As per the official press release issued by NIT, Warangal, the institute will be creating an educational framework for reliable and clean power for all. The institute will be developing a unique Master of Technology programme in SEG from the current academic year onwards.
According to the press release issued, the institute will play a pivotal role in developing a talent pool given that the country is transforming in Electric Grid with renewables and there is a need for reliable power under the ‘one-nation-one-grid frequency’ roadmap.
Director of NIT Warangal, Professor NV Ramana Rao stated that the development of India’s power network has become a catalyst in meeting the demand for rapid growth in the rural as well as urban areas. He further added that the aim of the institute is to create the right educational framework and environment which will enable a cleaner, greener and smarter grid.
Benefits of the programme
ABB Power Grids India will help the institute in creating a socially-relevant and internationally accepted curriculum to implement innovative and effective teaching methodologies along with sharpening the focus on the complete development of students at the institute over the next five years. Along with the crafting the course content of the programme, ABB Power Grids India will support the institute for setting up laboratories for SEG technology and also provide internship opportunities for the M.Tech Students and PhD Scholars.
ABB Power Grids India Managing Director N Venu stated that the programme is part of the continued focus of the firm on education and skill development which is aligned with the initiatives like Skill India. He further stated that the programme will help in boosting the efforts in bringing power to all while cutting carbon emissions.
