Schools in Odisha are likely to reopen the schools in the states after a gap of nearly 9 months since the schools have been shut due to the pandemic. According to reports, the schools are expected to reopen from January 2021.
While speaking to the media the Odisha School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash have stated that the classes for the students from classes 10 and 12 will reopen in January and a decision on the reopening of classes for the other students will be taken after the consultation with the Odisha government.
The education minister stated that the priority will be given to the reopening of the classes for the students in phase one and except for the holidays, the classes will be conducted on Saturday and Sunday.
Exam to be conducted only after physical classes
The examination for the students will be held after the physical classes are conducted for a minimum of 100 days. Keeping in mind the pandemic situation each of the students will be provided with a question bank for the preparation of the examinations. According to higher education secretary Saswar Mishra, roughly 6 lakh students will be appearing for the board examinations. A final decision on reopening the schools will however be taken based on the review conducted on the situation due to the pandemic.
The Odisha Higher Education Department had written to universities and colleges in the state not to conduct the exams until the physical mode of teaching resumed in the colleges in the state.
Online Classes to continue
The online classes will continue for the undergraduate and postgraduate however no exams will be conducted. The final semester exams will be conducted after the commencement of the classes in the physical mode. The colleges have stated that the institutions are not in favour of conducting the examinations based on online teaching only since there are many students who may not have understood the subject properly.
