
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone for the IIT Madras Discovery Campus. The ceremony was conducted on Sunday - December 14, 2021. According to reports, the campus will be built at Thaiyur near Chennai for an estimate of Rs, 1000 Crores in the first phase on an area of over 2 Lakh square meters.
Tamil Nadu state Governor Banwarilal Purohit, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, and Deputy Chief Minister P Paaneerselvan were also present at the foundation stone laying ceremony.
The Prime Minister also conducted the inauguration of the Chennai Metro Rail Phase 1 extension project which was completed at a cost of Rs. 3,7700 Crores and the fourth Railway line between Chennai Beach and Attipattu. The Prime Minister also handed over the Arjun Main Battle Tank (MK-1A) to Army Chief General MM Naravane in Chennai. According to a press release issued, the tank has been designed, developed, and made by the Combat Vehicles and Development Organisation 15 academic institutions, 8 labs, and several MSMEs.
Tamil Nadu School Reopening
According to reports, the Tamil Nadu state government is yet to confirm a decision regarding the reopening of the schools in the state for the students from classes 1 to 8. The Tamil Nadu state education minister has con\formed that the final decision to reopen the schools in the state for the primary and elementary students will be taken only after consultation with the chief minister. The schools across the state have been closed since March 2020 due to the pandemic and lockdown.
