Professor Sudhir Krishnaswamy has taken over as the new Vice-Chancellor of the National Law School of India University after his appointment was confirmed by the Chancellor of the University, Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi.
The university was recently in the headlines for the protests staged by the students over the delay in the appointment of Professor Krishnaswamy as the Vice-Chancellor of the University. The students on Tuesday have called off their protests stating that the Chancellor has taken note of their demands. It is after nearly 50 days from the appointment of Professor Krishnwsawmy that he has finally taken charge as the VC despite the panel of experts and the sub-committee of the NLSIU executive council selecting him from the three shortlisted candidates.
The matter was solved this week after an alumnus from the university on behalf of the students met the CJI and the acting chancellor of NLSIU, senior judge Justice Sharad Bobde and briefed them about the protests which were happening in the university.
The Chief Justice of India and Justice Bobde finally directed the students to call off their protests as the process of the selection of the new Vice-Chancellor was complete and the decision of the sub-committee of the NLSIU Executive council of electing Professor Krishnaswamy as the new VC of NLSIU was final.
