The Rajasthan State Government will soon introduce ranking for colleges in the state. Around 252 government colleges in the state of Rajasthan will be ranked and evaluated by the state government. The evaluation, as planned, will be based on 130 points which will be taken into account for the ranking. The main aim of the ranking system is to design development plans for the colleges as per their ranking.
The Higher Education Department of Rajasthan initially had planned to complete the first phase of the ranking by October. However, presently, officers are being provided with training to accomplish the task. The officials are being trained in teams of 8 which include chairpersons and of the District-in-charge Resource Assistance Committees of the 33 districts in the state. It has been reported that more than 50 teams will be deployed for the assessment of the colleges.
The college ranking initiative by the State Government is being taken keeping in view the need for continuous evaluation and preparation of plans based on the ranking reports. The development plans will ultimately aim for better results in colleges. The colleges will first have to fill in their report in the evaluation form. The cost of development will be verified by the different members of the evaluation committee.
The various factors which will be accounted for while ranking will include - assessment of colleges in teaching system, institutional arrangement, student aid system, institutional management, qualitative evaluation of faculty members, development opportunities to faculty members, social development of the institutions and exemplary works by partnerships and institutions are included.
