The state government has declared January 28 as a holiday for Shab-e-Meraj in its calendar, but it is listed as an optional holiday, not a public holiday. Shab-e-Meraj is an important night for Muslims worldwide, marking the Prophet Muhammad's journey from Makkah to Jerusalem and his ascension to heaven.
Shab-e-Meraj is an important occasion for Muslims, commemorating the night when Prophet Muhammad traveled from Makkah to Jerusalem and ascended to heaven, receiving guidance from Allah and meeting other prophets. While many schools are expected to stay closed, some may continue with regular classes.
In January, Telangana had six holidays in total—four were general holidays and two were optional.
The Government of Jammu and Kashmir announced on Saturday that the holiday for Shab-e-Meraj will be postponed from Monday, January 27, to Tuesday, January 28, 2025.
According to an official order, "In partial modification of Government Order No. 2193 JK(GAD) of 2024 dated: 29.12.2024, the holiday for Shab-e-Meraj will now be observed on January 28, 2025 (Tuesday) instead of January 27, 2025 (Monday), in Jammu and Kashmir." The decision follows a request from the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board to change the holiday date, based on the communication from the Chief Executive Officer and the Administrator of Aasar-i-Sharif Hazratbal Srinagar, stating that Shab-e-Meraj will be celebrated on 27th Rajab, which falls on January 28, 2025, a Tuesday.
