Schools in Goa are scheduled to reopen on November 21 for the students from classes 10 and 12. The state government has issued standard operating procedures for the particle re-opening of the schools in the state since the schools have been closed from March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the SOPs issued by the state government, there must be more than 12 students in a class and the off-even formula must be followed for conducting the classes for the students. The students are also required to be sanitized before entering the school premises along with maintaining social distancing in the classrooms.
SOP guidelines
With respect to the skill-based training in workshops or laboratories, it must be ensured that the staff members sanitize their hands before and after using the training equipment. The appropriate backup stock of personal protection items including face covers, masks, visors, hand sanitizers, etc must also be available to the students and staff members by the school management.
In September 2020, the state chief minister had formed a consultation committee including the Education Department officials, education experts, and representatives of Headmasters and Parent-Teacher Associations to suggest a time frame for resuming schools in the state. After the reports were submitted by the committee the state decided to reopen the schools for the students from November 21, 2020.
States reopening Schools
Until now schools in many of the states have reopened the schools by following all the necessary precautionary measures. Some of the states which have decided to reopen the schools after the Diwali Vacations include Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu among others. Such state governments have also issued operating procedures for the schools in their respective states.
