UGC Academic Job Portal: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has opened up an academic job portal for PhD, National Eligibility Test (NET), and State Eligibility Test (SET) qualified candidates. The ‘Academic Job Portal’ will help eligible candidates to register and create their profiles online for teaching jobs available in universities and colleges. To look for jobs, they will have to make a profile at ugc.ac.in/jobportal.

Job Posting on the Portal

Employers can search for candidates available through the portal and post the job vacancies for candidates to apply against. The UGC intends to upgrade the jobs available and post non-teaching jobs as well. Non-teaching jobs include a wide range of administrative roles such as in accounts and also in engineering, security, health, library, and others. The registrar is often not an academic and deputed from other services.

As per the official statement, “The UGC is in the process of upgrading the job portal with the inclusion of Non-Teaching vacancies and also adding some new features. The upgraded portal shall become functional shortly.” Typically, public institutions advertise posts in the media and on their websites. In the private sector, the recruitment process is more opaque.

Institutions to fill reserved teaching, non-teaching posts

Earlier, all the universities and colleges have been asked to fill up all the vacant teaching and non-teaching posts under various reserved categories. The institutions receiving public funds have been asked to ensure effective implementation of the Reservation Policy as per Article 30 (1) of the Constitution of India. The UGC in a letter to all the institutions on February 1 has stated that it is mandatory to furnish details related to teaching and non-teaching vacancies and admissions to all level courses and hostel accommodation during 2020-21 on their website on the UGC portal. The letter states: “The above instructions should also be circulated to all the constituent and affiliated colleges.”
