Schools in Prayagraj, Varanasi, Ayodhya, and Sultanpur are closed until February 5 due to the Mahakumbh Mela 2025 and will reopen on February 6. The Mahakumbh Mela, held in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, attracts millions of devotees from across the country. To ensure the safety of students amidst the large crowds, schools in these areas have been closed. The holidays started on February 3 because of the Amrit Snan; the authorities were forced to close schools for security reasons due to the massive gathering. The Maha Kumbh Mela is a prominent Hindu event where the most significant ritual is a sacred bath at Triveni Sangam believed to purify participants.
Today, schools and colleges in Delhi are declared a holiday as it is the day of Delhi Assembly Elections. The voting will be held from 7 am till 6 pm. Since most schools and colleges are being used as polling stations, they have also declared this day a holiday so that voting is completed smoothly. Some might declare the previous day as a holiday.
Jamia Millia Islamia has also declared a two-day holiday for its Middle School on February 4 and 5, as there will be election-related activities. Students and staff will be on leave, and the school campus will be utilized for election preparation.
