Role of AME
Aircraft Maintenance Engineering could be an exciting career if you are looking for something different from the traditional Engineering courses as a career option.
Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AME’s) are licensed by the DGCA to maintain all civil aircraft. Other than such Licensed Engineers, no other person can carry out maintenance or repairs on an aircraft. A civil aircraft is not permitted to fly until a Licensed AME has undertaken its maintenance and has certified that the aircraft is fit to fly, before each and every flight takes off. AME’s therefore play a vital role in airlines and aviation.
The aviation industry is expected to continue to grow rapidly both globally and nationally. Domestic aviation has been growing at over 20% p.a. in recent times. India is expected to emerge as the third largest aviation market in the next few years. As a direct result, the need for more AME’s will continue to be felt even more strongly, as airlines and other aircraft operators will require skilled, licensed engineers to maintain and service aircraft.
SAME, promoted by the InterGlobe Group, is approved by the Director General of Civil Aviation, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India, to offer a three year Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Course in the Mechanical and Avionics Stream. This AME course prepares the students to appear successfully in the examinations conducted by the DGCA for issue of an AME License.

SAME assures that it will;
- arrange for its students to learn about airline maintenance practices in a live environment.
- arrange for its students to receive exposure to A320 full-flight Simulators at CSTPL, an InterGlobe Group company in partnership with CAE, also located at SAME’s premises.
- offer all assistance to its students in obtaining employment, including in InterGlobe Group companies, provided students meet their relevant selection criteria.
All students who have passed their Class XII examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics from a recognized board or university or its equivalent with a minimum aggregate of 50% in Class are eligible to apply for SAME’s three-year program.
All students whose have appeared for the Class XII examination and whose results are not available by July will be considered as provisionally eligible subject to their having obtained 60% marks in their Class X examination and subject to their obtaining 50% marks in aggregate in the Class XII examination.
DGCA Licence Eligibility Criteria
After successful completion of 1st & 2nd Semester students shall be eligible to appear for Paper-I of the DGCA.
After successful completion of Semester 3rd & 4th students shall be eligible to appear for Paper-II and after successful completion of 5th Semester students shall be eligible to appear for Paper-III of DGCA AME license examination. After passing paper I, II & III of the AME License examination conducted by DGCA, students will get Basic Aircraft Maintenance Engineers Examination Certificate (BAMEC).
On passing out from SAME, a student may consider several career options:
In case he/she appears and successfully passes the DGCA examination, he/she may join an airline, an aviation related IT organization or an MRO as an assistant, Technician, Junior Trainee/Engineer.
